Is there a good “default” outfit for weddings where you aren’t in the groom’s party? Just as a regular guest? I want to look nice but don’t want to seem super stuffy.

Geoffrey says:
If there’s a dress code on the invitation, follow that!
If not, either a charcoal or navy blue suit always works. Wear a white shirt, a conservative necktie, and black leather shoes — good business dress, essentially. A pocket square can add a touch of color, or you can just wear a crisp white one like you would for a business meeting.
If it’s a more casual affair, gray slacks and a dark jacket with a lightly-patterned white shirt is a nice compromise between casual dress and the importance of the occasion. Navy blazers or dark-colored sports jackets work equally well here.

When in doubt, you can always ask the hosts!
