is it okay to wear a three piece suit … minus the jacket?
I wouldn’t typically wear it as an outfit on its own. If you’re wearing a vest without a jacket I’d recommend an odd (unmatched) vest and trousers rather than a matched vest and trousers without the completing jacket. That way it looks more like a deliberate outfit and less like you’ve shed the jacket because it was too hot or fitting poorly.
That said, if you’re at an event like a wedding, it is reasonably normal for men to shed layers (and women to shed high heels!) once the dancing begins. In that sort of situation it would be perfectly acceptable to shed the jacket and even roll the shirt sleeves up.
