What is the consensus on lapel pins, namely small ones like aviator wings or other military breast insignias? Not the normal size, but rather the small ones. Thanks.

You can wear a small lapel pin in most business or social settings.
Pins that demonstrate military (or really any group) membership do come with the caveat that not everyone is going to like or agree with the group in question, so they can be a little bit of a risk in some situations.
Military insignia specifically will also have their own rules about whether they can be worn on civilian clothes. Make sure you’re following the Service regulations before taking an official military decoration out in public!
You are going to be poking a tiny hole in the weave each time you wear a lapel pin, so try to pick one you like and leave it in the same lapel except during cleaning. Thicker wools with coarser surfaces will show the minor damage less than superfines.
