How to dress well in a club or dance?
Hello Antonio,
My name is Benjamin. I am 21 years old and i have a question on what is appropriate to wear at a club or Latin dance clubs in the city. I what i have worn in the past is a dress shirt, dark jeans, a vest and comfortable dress shoes. I don’t know if that appropriate, i don’t what to look bad. I was also wondering if dress slack, blazers, over-jackets would be fine. I would like to know if it’s appropriate to wear at a club or Latin dance clubs in the city and what recommendations would you give me. also what kind of shoes are a appropriate.

It can vary a lot from club to club, but blazers are usually safe so long as they’re reasonably casual and sporty — you don’t want to be wearing a double-breasted navy blazer with brass buttons to a club unless it’s a yacht club.
The Esquire fashion blog did a good piece on this last year:

LikeDislikeIf you are going to a latin club I am assuming it is a salsa, cumbia, or merenge type club where dancing is involved. I would skip the blazer or coat and check it with the coatroom. If you plan to dance at the dance club the coat will probably be too restrictive. Most latin style dance moves use a good amount of upper body motion especially if you want to spin your partner. I have left several very nice coats and jackets over the years at clubs only because I took them off after the first dance and was so caught up in the moment. There is a very good reason why professional salsa dancers wear loose flowing shirts. Mostly because it hides blocky movement and makes you look more fluid. Keep in mind that you will also be getting very hot, dancing is fairly intense aerobic workout.

LikeDislikeMrmoderngentleman hits it right on the head. You will end up ditching the jacket after a few dances, anyway. When I was dancing all the time, I remember that, even in the wintertime, we would step outside to cool off after an hour or so of straight dancing. If you live in Miami, you could get away with a light sport coat most of the winter on the way to the club (though I’m about to close my windows here in Orlando, as it’s getting too chilly outside for me). Farther north, you might need something warmer to get to and from the club.
Make sure the shoes don’t grip too much, but don’t slip all over the dance floor, either. Shoes like tennis shoes or sneakers would grip too much and could cause stress on the knees with some movements. Plus, they wouldn’t be allowed in many clubs. Leather soles would be a great option here. Add some slacks and a nice shirt and matching belt, and you’re good to go.
