Good Suit for a Middle Aged Man?
I’m into middle age and recently changed to a career where I need to wear suits pretty regularly. Right now I only have one and it’s showing its age. What should I buy that’s going to look good on me? I’m balding and don’t have a super athletic build, so I don’t think I’m going to look like the guys in fashion ads do!
I’d stick with a basic single-breasted, two-button jacket in navy blue. Charcoal gray is just as multi-purpose, but blue has more of an association with youth, which makes it a nice subtle advantage for an older man.
A good fit will do more for your appearance than any particular fabric or color will, so spend your money on getting a very personalized fit rather than an exotic material. If you can afford a bespoke suit that’s obviously the best option; made-to-measure can also look very sharp at a somewhat lower cost.
