What’s the appropriate length of a formal vest and the proper fit under the armpits? Thanks!
The vest should cover the waist of the trouser all the way around. The fit under the armpits will be hidden by your jacket, but for comfort it should leave enough room that you can raise and lower your arms all the way without pinching.
A lot of formal vests will be the backless style, and the strap in the back is almost always adjustable. You can use that to helm some with a vest that’s long enough but just a little too tight or loose.
