Felt under the collar
I’m not sure what to think about a “made to measure” taylor that doesn’t add felt under the collar of a suit coat. Is it really a necessity or just another detail of a better quality suit? What are your thoughts on the subject? Thanks,
Bill

It isn’t a sign of good quality, it is something suit jackets just have. The purpose of the felt under the jacket collar is so the collar holds its shape. Even cheap suits will have felt under their collars. You might find the odd sports jacket without any felt. I have a corduroy sports jacket without felt under the collar, but that is the exception. As for suits, only the cheapest of the cheap won’t have felt. I’m saying that if Walmart made a suit for $50, that would be the kind without felt under the collar. Avoid anyone who makes suits without felt under the collar. They are cutting corners to save a buck, and if they are cutting corners there, where else are they cutting corners.
