What are your thoughts on them? Should they be avoided, or can they be use tastefully? I’m interested to hear as many opinions as possible.
Simple answer: yes, they can be used tastefully.
Slightly longer answer: Earrings on men is common enough at this point that it’s not an automatic faux pas, but it does still have a bit of a “rebel” feel to it, especially in conservative business culture. A small hoop or stud earring can probably pass in most situations that aren’t banking, finance, law, or other very traditional environments.
Big, gaudy earrings, especially ones with precious stones, are too much anywhere outside of a dance club (and don’t even look that great there). Steer clear of them and stick to the basics.
And, of course, don’t get ripped off! The same guidelines we use for buying rings, watches, and cufflinks work just as well for earrings:
Hmmm. An earring will stand out in most business settings but if you want to wear one i think a simple stud is best. I think though that if you wear a watch and an earring, then you should ditch any bracelets.
