I’ll be heading to my high school class reunion (I won’t say how many years, lol) this spring and I want to look good but not overdressed. What should I wear? Is a suit too much?

First thing you should do is check the official invitation or website and see what sort of event it is, and if there’s a specific dress code. If they’re holding the reunion at a nice restaurant in a big city a jacket and tie may be required wear, whereas a potluck event in the high school gymnasium would make a suit overkill.
If there’s a dress code on the invitation, go with that. Otherwise, assume that you want to look sharp but not stuffy. For most situations that’s going to mean nice pants and an odd (unmatched) jacket. A good collared shirt with no tie looks relaxed but well-dressed. Nice leather shoes complete the outfit.
If you think it might be a reasonably dressy occasion you can throw a necktie on, but try to avoid an outfit that looks like office wear, particularly if it’s an evening event. Neckties after 5:00 PM are always a little stuffy.
Resist the temptation to wear any “status” wear like really flashy shoes or a big metal watch. No one likes that guy, especially at a class reunion. Dress nice but not ostentatious.
