Can I Wear a Suit Jacket with Jeans for Casual Outfits?
I’ve got a nice suit and the jacket looks good with non-matching trousers as well. Can I wear it with blue jeans, or will the contrast in quality be so obvious that it looks bad?
Depends on the jacket, but if you say the jacket goes well with odd trousers, you can probably pull off blue jeans.
The key is to wear nice jeans (deep indigo rather than light blue, no cargo pockets, close fit, etc.) and to keep the undershirt casual. A brightly-colored pocket square with a loose fold also helps dress the outfit down.
The only suit jackets I’m really careful of mixing with blue jeans are navy suit jackets. They’re so close in color to most dressy jeans that it’s an awkward mix. Of course, if you have denim in a different color that can work out fine as well.
It’s mostly just a matter of making all the details except the jacket very clearly dressed-down. Casual leather shoes, shirt, pocket square, belt, etc. with a nice jacket looks just fine.
